Format & Rules

  • The Tournament is played as 5 nine-hole net, four-ball matches. Each hole of each match is worth one point, with tied holes earning each team one-half a point. Teams may earn a maximum of seven points in a match. Once a team has earned seven points in a match, the team cannot earn more points, but it can prevent its opponent from earning points on remaining holes.

The team that accumulates the most points in each flight after all matches are completed will win the flight and advance to the Shootout.

  • The Shootout will include (1) All flight winners; (2) The top point-earners from Saturday’s matches that are not otherwise in the Shootout regardless of flight; and (3) Any teams that win all 5 matches.

The Shootout is a foursomes (alternate shot) event. Each player must alternate tee shots with their partner.

Teams in the Shootout will be assigned to either hole No. 10 or hole No. 14. The top 4 teams from each hole will advance to holes No. 11 and No. 15, respectively. Ties will be broken by chip-off.

The top two teams from hole No. 11 and the top two teams from hole No. 15 will advance to hole No. 16. Ties will be broken by chip-off.

The final four remaining teams will play holes 16, 17, and 18, eliminating one team on each hole.

Ties will be broken by chip-off, except in the event of a tie on hole 18, Players will repeat No. 18 until the tie is broken.

If additional playoff holes cannot be completed due to darkness, a chip-off may be used to determine the winner.

  • Of course you looked at this section, you sandbagger.

Handicaps are locked on July 8.

All handicaps are cut to 90% of the player’s Course Handicap, per USGA Rules of Handicapping recommendations for Best-Ball Match Play Events. See USGA Rules of Handicapping Appendix C.

For the Shootout, teams will receive 50% of their combined team handicap, per USGA Rules of Handicapping recommendations for foursomes events. See USGA Rules of Handicapping Appendix C.

  • The Rule of 80 determines whether a male player is eligible to play from the White Tees. If the player’s Handicap Index and their age add to 80 or higher, the player is eligible to play the White Tees. Otherwise, the player must play the Blue Tees.

All ladies will play the Green Tees.

All Course Handicaps will be determined by the tees the player is playing.

  • The Tournament Committee reserves the right to create local rules for the competition. Such rules will be communicated to players prior to the start of the competition. The Committee reserves the right to add or amend local rules in between matches or tournament days if necessary.

  • Players are asked to complete each match in 2 hours.

In the interest of maintaining pace of play, players are asked to concede holes once they are clearly out of contention to win or halve a hole.

Likewise, players are asked not to complete a hole once their partner has already recorded the score that will count for the team.

  • If inclement weather does not allow all five matches to be completed, the Committee may cancel one or more matches and advance directly to the Shootout.

All efforts will be made to conduct a Shootout and declare a tournament champion.
